Kat's Little Adventure Blog

Join me this winter while I embark on my longest trip to date!

Planning Day | Day 77

Today, we got up very late. We didn’t wake up late, per se, but we did stay and hang out in the air-conditioned rooms until we couldn’t wait any longer to eat.

Kara came to hang out in my room and play cards while I blogged for a while before breakfast.

We were having fun watching the chickens before heading to the main house.

Breakfast this morning was rice and beans, eggs with chorizo, tortillas, and bean soup (basically bean water with extremely pungent cheese, not my favourite but everything else was amazing).

We hung out in the house for a little while and René Sr. picked some Jocotes for us to try.

The jocotes tasted a bit like sweet tomatoes but had a pit similar to that of an apricot.

After hanging out for a bit longer, we headed back to the guest house to do some future trip planning. We only have 4 weeks left and three whole countries to tackle, and we didn’t even know how or when we were getting from here to Nicaragua soooo we REALLY needed to plan! We figured most of it out though it was a good session.

We hung out in these hammocks on our patio for a bit and then Mayra came up with her sister Mirna to introduce us.

We headed back to the main house for supper around 6:30, and Mayra said we’d all be getting picked up by René and driven to a good pupuseria in a nearby town.

She got us to pick some marañones while we were waiting.

Once René arrived, Mayra, Kara, Mirna, and I all squished into the car and we drove the 15 minutes to Guatajiagua. Mayra told us her favourite pupusas (which she doesn’t make herself because “there are enough pupuserias”) are from Comedor y Típicos Doña Berta, where we were headed.

Here’s a cute video René took of us walking with his sisters.

I had bean and cheese, cheese and garlic, and cheese and loroco (squash flower) pupusas. They were delicious!

After supper, we drove back home and relaxed in the hammocks. We were offered coffee, which we gladly accepted because it was DELICIOUS at breakfast. I don’t know what it is, but I never turn down coffee here it’s so good. We were then offered “sweet bread” they call quesadilla, which was essentially a very dry, dense, crumbly cake that tasted like parmesan cheese. It was definitely interesting, and Kara and I shared three pieces of it.

After the snack it was time for bed, we walked back to the guest house and I showered and chatted with Keith a bit before bed. See you in the next one!
