Join me this winter while I embark on my longest trip to date!

Moving Day | Day 15

Today, I leave Mexico City.

I got up and dragged myself out of bed for breakfast. At least I slept better than the past couple nights but I still feel awful. The breakfast was good though, I think I’ve had them all now.

I went back to my bunk and slept some more until it was time to go for some kind of supper. I made my way (via uber because it was going to be a half hour walk and I could NOT) to an asian place called Pho 7. I had gyoza, some noodles, and mango sago (tapioca with frozen mango and coconut milk). It was okay, I probably just wasn’t feeling well enough to appreciate it. They did have a cute dog though.

After supper, I went back to the hostel and rushed to pack and catch an uber to the bus station for my 9:30pm bus. I got there just after 9 which was a bit stressful because I didn’t know how it was going to work. Would there be security? Did I have to check my bag beforehand? I had no clue. Luckily, it was easy to figure out. The station was shaped like a circular concession area with hallways leading to different gates. I found my bus on a digital departure screen and got my gate figured out, then waited at the gate until they started letting people through onto the bus. They made me walk through some kind of detector (with all my stuff on so I’m not sure what they were detecting), and checked my smaller backpack. Then I checked my big bag under the bus and went to find my seat (number 10, third row from the front).

The seats are comfortable! Much better than an airplane seat. I had the aisle which was nice for leg room but it was not so nice for sleeping because I couldn’t lean on the window. The AC was good, it was actually a little cold and I wore one of my sweaters.

They played one movie out loud at the beginning, from around 9:30-11pm, then the screens went dark for people to sleep. There was some strange music playing all night out loud, I guess for the driver, but I put my headphones on and it wasn’t a problem. I think I actually could’ve slept super well had I not been sick. As it was, my ears were really bothering me when we drove through the hills in the state of Oaxaca, and I had to constantly blow my nose. Other than that it was okay, I probably slept for 4 of the 10-ish hours.

See you in the next one!
