Kat's Little Adventure Blog

Join me this winter while I embark on my longest trip to date!

Laundry Day | Day 78

This morning, I woke up to music blaring from the main house. We got out of the guest house late again, walking across the yard around 11. Mayra prepared us breakfast and told us that Don René (the grandpa) loves music so he puts it really loud. It was really cute to watch.

Mayra made us rice and beans, avocado, tortillas and (very gristly) beef for breakfast. It all tasted really good.

Kara and I went back to the house to start a load of laundry and then we came back to the house and entertained ourselves for a few hours in the living room. I mostly blogged in the hammock.

Mayra served us a “refresco de arrayán” (arrayán refreshment). It tasted a bit like lychee or grapes, super refreshing!

We went back to hang our laundry on the line and got distracted looking at the chickens again. Some of them don’t have tails, they just look like round little balls so I call them “boule de poule”, they’re so funny.

We went back to the house and had coffee and quesadilla, except it was different today.

Still dry, but less dense and pungent. We both had a second one because they were actually good today.

We kept handing out and playing cards at the table. Mayra and Don René seem to only know a single card game with these “American cards”, and I think it’s 31. They call the cards “naipes”.

At 5:30, we walked up the road to the centre of town for pupusas.

Mirna joined us too when we walked by her house. The pupusería was in the town square, where at least 8 men were sitting on a bench watching everyone get up to their evening business. I guess that’s how they got their gossip.

Kara and I shared 3 bean and cheese and 3 squash flower pupusas. They were really good! We were told to get coke because we didn’t know if the water was clean so that’s what we did.

We went for a short walk before heading back to the house where we sat and chatted outside with Mayra. Around 8:30, we went inside to get ready for bed.

We had a rousing game of crib (I won) and then I called Keith before bed.

See you in the next one!
