Join me this winter while I embark on my longest trip to date!

Day 9 | Laundry & Cafe

Today was another slow day because I still had to get laundry done after yesterday but at least my stomach was still okay. I got up and went for breakfast at 9:30 as usual.

Today was chilaquiles! The fruit bowl was lacking yogurt and the honey syrup was unnecessary but whatever the fruit is good. The chilaquiles were delicious.

After breakfast, I collected some of Brooklyn (one of the girls from supper last night – from Toronto, here working online) and Ricardo’s laundry and headed off to the laundromat. It was only a 10-ish minute walk from the hostel to EcoClean. The washers were 70 pesos per load, and I didn’t dry anything there so it was super cheap. The wash cycle was also only half an hour! So instead of walking back to the hostel, I decided to find a cafe to kill the time. There was one right around the corner called Tu Es so I headed there. It was really cute!

I sat out on the sidewalk and had an Hojicha tea latte which was super good! Like a rich, earthy black tea. I pulled out my kobo and read a bit too (current book: The Seven Year Slip, I’m enjoying it).

Around 11, it was time to go back and grab my laundry so I headed off. I’m happy to report that the machines did not eat or ruin anyone’s clothes and they were surprisingly clean after only half an hour in cold water with my laundry detergent sheets!

After laundry, I walked back to the hostel to find somewhere to dry my clothes. Thankfully, there were clotheslines I could use up on the terrace, and I was able to hang the rest of the small stuff up on my bunk. The curtain rod works great to hang clothes and I also brought a little bungee-style clothes line which I was able to hang across my bunk. It worked great! Everything dried super quickly.

Yesterday, Brook from Toronto said she might want to go to a bookstore cafe to work a bit today and I said I’d be interested in coming along so we headed there around noon. We went to Cafebrería El Péndulo which was gorgeous! We’d actually briefly walked in there with Niina on our way back from supper one night but I hadn’t known what it was called! It was fun, there were three floors of shelves and tons of places to sit. We both had iced coffees and eventually we decided to have lunch. I had a chicken burger because it was on special and I wanted something normal for my stomach but I didn’t realize it was fried so that ended up being not the greatest. I worked on my journal while we sat and Brook attended meetings.

After we left the cafe, I went back and chilled at the hostel. A new guy called Jackson from Belfast had moved into the bunk above mine, so we chatted a bit and he asked where he could find some tacos close by. I told him there was a spot just around the corner and I’d bring him for supper if he wanted.

So yeah I had a chill afternoon then I brought Jackson to Taquería el Torito (the first place Maman and I went) for supper. He asked what I liked and I said he should get some Árabe tacos (cheese and pastor meat and pineapple) but I ate a chicken torta because I knew it’d be easier on my stomach.

After supper I really didn’t do anything too exciting, just headed off to sleep. I’m glad I met Jackson today he’s a cool guy and we might hang out tomorrow.

See you in the next one!
