Join me this winter while I embark on my longest trip to date!

Day 8 | Moving Day

Today was exactly what I needed it to be – very slow-paced and restful. I woke up (well-rested for once) and headed up to the terrace for breakfast at 9:30.

This morning, we had a bowl of fruit and some sort of sweet syrup (maybe honey, maybe simple syrup) with some granola, and then a poached egg with some longaniza (I think) which is like a Mexican chorizo, with crema and a pita. It was super yummy! Although I have to say, there was papaya in that fruit bowl and even though all the fruit here is amazing, I still am not a papaya fan.

After breakfast, I quickly packed up all my stuff (enough to move into another room anyways) and brought it up to the terrace. Check-out is at 10 and check-in is at noon so I only had a couple hours of homelessness in between. My stomach was better today so that was a huge relief. My only plan for the day was to do laundry, which Lizan said she also had to do. I was going to wait until the afternoon because she has Spanish classes every day until 2pm so for now I just put my bags on the terrace and hung out.

I had a productive morning, I planned some future travel (bus routes, hostels and stuff for further down the road) and caught up a bit on the blog. Claudia came to see me in the early afternoon to tell me my bed was ready, so she brought me down to show me. I’m on the 2nd floor now, one higher than before and only one below the terrace. I’ve moved to the 6-bed elephant dorm. It’s really nice! The storage system is great, we have huge lockers and little shelves to keep stuff accessible. The bunks are nice, I got a bottom one and there are nice privacy curtains. It does get pretty stuffy, especially since there are signs saying we can’t have the window open between 9pm and 7am (I’m assuming that’s because of road noise but come on I’d rather wear earplugs to sleep than suffocate from dead air), but otherwise no complaints.

I was just hanging out in my bunk when Lizan got back from her Spanish lessons, and she wanted to go out to a museum with Ricardo so I told them to go before we went to do laundry because the timing would work better that way. There isn’t much open on Mondays, this is like the only museum that isn’t closed today. It was a good day for me to just chill I didn’t miss much. Eventually, Lizan texted me that her and Ric got kind of stuck in a different part of town because rush hour was really delaying ubers back and making them super expensive. They decided to just walk a bit closer to the hostel but it was going to take a while, so I decided to go out for supper with a group of girls instead of waiting for them. They were going to a place called Plantasia, a vegetarian Asian restaurant which sounded so good and fresh to me. Since my little food poisoning episode yesterday, the thought of oily tacos was really turning my stomach.

Me and a couple girls decided to split a bunch of stuff because everything looked so good we couldn’t decide! We had dim sum, cucumber salad, a crispy kimchi roll, a dynamite roll, and a chilli roll. Everything was really good, although I think it was all vegan and by the end I was thinking that real cream cheese could’ve done wonders (instead of cashew). Some of it was quite sweet as well but there were lots of veggies which I’d been craving.

After supper, I was so full and we all decided we didn’t have room for dessert so we just went back to the hostel. I had an early night (I’ve been REALLY tired just need to catch up on sleep a bit).

So yeah that was my chill moving day, I’ll see you in the next one!
