Join me this winter while I embark on my longest trip to date!

Chapeltique Park | Day 79

Today, we’d been planning to go to Chapeltique and San Miguel to see the surrounding cities, but Kara had to wake me up, or I probably would’ve slept all day. We wanted to go to Chapeltique yesterday, but Mayra said the mototaxis (tuk-tuks) weren’t running because it was Sunday. Today would’ve been good, but since we got such a late start again (my bad), we decided just to go tomorrow.

Always the obligatory chicken watching on the way to the main house.

I guess I forgot to take a picture of breakfast, but we had short ribs with rice and beans and eggs with tomato, served with tortillas and coffee. It was delicious!

After breakfast, we went back to the guest house for a bit where we were greeted by my favourite friend, boule de poule.

I hung out with Kara, spent some time blogging and chatting with Keith, and eating my favourite desperation snack of peanut butter on a rice cake.

We ended up going to Chapeltique with Herbert (René’s brother in law from Houston) and Mayra at 4:30 to get supper.

We walked past the pretty church on the way to the supper restaurant, Pollo Campestre.

It’s a fried chicken place, but Kara and I REALLY needed any kind of veggie so we split a caesar salad and an order of chicken fingers which hit the spot.

After supper, we went to sit in the park. We stayed for an hour, mostly chatting and watching the townsfolk. We also went back to the church for a better view.

The sunsets are really pretty here, the sky always turns a bunch of different colours.

Back at the house, we were given chocobananos with our coffee.

These are frozen bananas dipped in chocolate, a popular treat in El Salvador that I haven’t tried yet because, quite frankly, I’m terrified of them. It was okay, a bit slimy when it melts and there wasn’t enough chocolate for me, plus it hurt my teeth to eat. But if you actually like bananas I can see why they’re so popular.

We also had some more quesadillas and played cards, I taught Mayra to play bataille à grand-papa because she was curious yesterday. She got it a bit by the end, but good thing it was a short game because she got tired of it QUICK.

After a while we retired to the guest house where I showered and called Keith before bed. See you in the next one!
