This morning, I woke up earlier (I’d set an alarm for 8). I went outside to make coffee and sat at the dining table. I worked a bit on yesterday’s blog and called Soph since she doesn’t have classes on Thursdays. I sat out in the kitchen until Kara got up and then we went back into the room (for the AC) and chatted with Soph until she had to go. We didn’t have food for breakfast this morning, so I had a couple of bimbo tortillas with peanut butter with my instant coffee.
We headed into town for real breakfast and ended up at a cafe called Point Break Cafe. I had a berry matcha smoothie (tasted like grass mostly, too much unmixed matcha powder) and a “Canada Bagel” which was just cream cheese, avocado, and smoked salmon with a bunch of dill on top. The bagel was homemade though and it was delicious.

Bonus picture of a cute dog who walked with us for a little bit on our way to town.
We sat and journalled and played cards until by butt was sore from sitting on my little stool. Eventually, we decided to move to another cafe we’ve been walking by every day: Tusell Toastadores.
The guy behind the counter immediately greeted us and explained how the coffee comes from a town a couple hours away and they roast their own beans. We decided we wanted something iced and he recommended the iced flat white which we both got. It was good coffee, but a little too strong for me, I probably would’ve preferred the latte. I finished my book while Kara did some journalling.

All of a sudden, we started smelling something smokey. It was subtle at first, a little sweet and not too strong. The two workers ran to the back of the shop and told us there was a roasting room back there.

When they opened the door, though, smoke and ash filled the air. One of the guys immediately ran and apologized for having to open the door and letting out the AC but we were actually being smoked out so we were fine with that!
We ended up sitting through the worst of it and paying half price for the coffee (he told us it would be free).
At 4:30 pm, we headed to the beach because the sun was finally less intense and we weren’t going to burn to a crisp by just being out. We swam for a bit (mostly just diving under the waves to avoid being pummelled), and then we laid out on our towels and watched the sunset. I read a bit of a new book and Kara carved some avocado pits. I had a really good time sitting on the beach during sunset. I’m realizing that I don’t love the beach during the day when it’s scorching hot and there’s no shade, but this was super nice.

When it got too dark, we packed up and headed off to a new pupusería to find supper.

We shared bean and cheese, cheese and jalapeño, and garlic and cheese pupusas from Pupuseria el Sol. They were really good here, much better than last night’s.
There was a bao place (Bao House) right next door which smelled super good so we decided to stop in there after the pupusas. We sat down and ordered. For drinks, Kara got lemonade and I got a beer & clam. We waited 22 minutes to get our drinks (Kara always starts a stopwatch after we order if we think it looks slow) and then ANOTHER half hour to get our food. We’d both gotten bao boxes which had bao buns with chicken and dumplings. The food was delicious but the wait was extremely long.

We were amusing ourselves by playing cards while we waited for our food. My beer and clam had SO MUCH worchestershire sauce that it was brown and tasted horrible so that was a waste. We had mochi ice cream on the way out, mine was smores and I loved it.
We got back quite late, I called Keith for a bit and then showered and blogged before bed. See you in the next one!
