Join me this winter while I embark on my longest trip to date!

Brunch & Tower Views | Day 10

Helllooooo stomach problems AGAIN. Not a joy I tell you. But at least I have this beautiful inspirational poster to look at while I sit in the single bathroom on my entire hostel floor and wait for it to end.

Went up for breakfast at 9:30 but before that I also had some green juice because I needed help. Breakfast today was yummy as always, Mediterranean flavours on the toast and no papaya or honey syrup on the fruit bowl!! Amazing.

After breakfast, I went back to the room and found Ricardo just getting out of bed (he was feeling pretty sick and missed breakfast). He was headed out to a cafe for brunch and I offered to come with him to keep him company (future Kat popping in to say past Kat should have STEERED CLEAR AND RUN AWAY FROM THE PLAGUE but Ricardo is a good friend now and I’m surviving so I guess we’ll take this). Anyways we walked to Madre Cafe and were eventually joined by Marcel from Switzerland and Jackson from Belfast.

I decided to have an iced latte and french toast because I wasn’t super hungry (obviously that backfired because LOOK at that plate). It was super good though it had guava jam and a bunch of berries, but Marcel had to finish it because I was sooooo full.

After brunch, I joined Jackson on a walk to Chapultepec Park. I’d already been with Maman last week but it’s so nice to walk around there I was looking forward to going again. We didn’t go into any of the museums or anything, just went for a wander.

We headed back in the direction of the hostel mid-afternoon and stopped in at a random patio for a beer (my stomach was not okay enough for a beer but I did order some pasta to-go for supper later).

Back at the hostel, I probably had a nap or just chilled on the patio for a bit. There was a group (Brook from Toronto, Jackson, Ricardo, a few other Canadian girls, and Lizan from the Netherlands) going to see the sunset at the Torre Latioamericana so I joined them. I navigated there (quite a task through the busy rush-hour streets, I felt like a mother duck collecting her 8 ducklings and walking them across a highway) and we walked into the “lobby” area. We got into an elevator going to the restaurant and bar (40th and 41st floors), and this is when the fiasco began.

So we get to the bar area and ask to be seated (group of 9). The hostess said okay sure and walked us through to the seating area. First of all, fully half of the windows on this floor were covered by a grate that blocked the view out the windows. Second, there were only 4-person tables so we started combining a couple of them to be able to sit together. Then someone came running over going NO NO you can’t combine the tables. So we go okay okay we won’t don’t worry we’ll just split up (already in the shitty area without a view mind you). Then someone else comes over and says “um you can’t sit here you’re blocking the pathway to the bathroom” (no we weren’t). At this point, we were fed up so we went up a floor to the restaurant to ask if we could be seated there instead. The waitress there said we could sit there as long as we each got a drink and we shared 3 appetizers between the 9 of us, but we had to go outside of the bar and come up to the restaurant via a different staircase. This was totally reasonable so we headed out of the bar and went back up a different way to the front of the restaurant. When we asked the hostess there to be seated, she told us we had to go to the bar! So we just gave up and left. We saw the views kinda and we were there so really we just saved money on drinks honestly. It was a mess though.

So after that disappointment we were just wandering around trying to find somewhere else to be when we stumbled upon Churreria El Moro which is a famous churro chain. I got the smallest order, a single churro for 13 pesos (like 90 cents). It was really good but my tummy still wasn’t great and I’m starting to think it’s all the oily heavy greasy meaty cheesy food creating issues. So I didn’t go all out with sauces or anything, just plain for me.

After the churros the others were gonna keep going but Ricardo felt like shit and he was gonna uber back so I said I’d join him because I was getting tired and I definitely didn’t want to drink.

When we got back, I hung out in the terrace living room area and ate my pasta that I got earlier. It was weird, cream sauce on rose pasta with walnuts and parm, but it was yummy. It also came with sliced baguette.

After my little tin foiled dinner I pretty much went to bed right away. I know these past couple days have been pretty boring but just you wait the boredom is only beginning.

See you in the next one!
